Grassroots Advocacy

International Candlelight Vigil for Elephants

By Courtney Fern on December 27, 2019
Share this story:

Please join the NhRP and over two dozen animal advocacy organizations and elephant sanctuaries on Saturday, Jan. 4, 2020 for the International Candlelight Vigil for Elephants. This will be a virtual event where advocates from all over the world will take time to remember the lives of elephants who died in captivity in 2019. Two elephants receiving special recognition are our elephant clients Beulah and Karen, who died this year while being imprisoned and exploited by the Commerford Zoo.

Participation in the event is easy. Simply share the below graphics on social media with a message of remembrance about Beulah and Karen and your hopes for Minnie, the sole surviving Commerford Zoo elephant, who is still being held captive on a ramshackle farm in Goshen, CT. Please include the hashtags #Vigil4Elephants and #Justice4Minnie in your post. You can also post your message to our Facebook event page.

By taking part in this virtual vigil, you will help bring awareness to the plight of elephants in captivity as well as draw attention to Minnie’s suffering and the urgent need for her to be freed to an elephant sanctuary.
