New York Attorney General Responds to NhRP’s Petition for Habeas Corpus and NhRP Replies

By Lauren Choplin on May 26, 2015

On Friday, May 22, 2015, the Attorney General of New York filed two documents in the Hercules and Leo chimpanzee case. The first document is a response to our petition for habeas corpus along with a motion to move the case from New York County to Suffolk County. The second document is an affidavit from the head of Stony Brook’s animal care committee. In response, today the Nonhuman Rights Project filed a reply memorandum of law in support of our petition for habeas corpus, an affirmation in opposition to the motion to move the trial and motion to strike certain portions of the affidavit from the head of Stony Brook’s animal care committee.
