Ways to Give
Your support powers our mission

Donors are at the heart of our unique mission to secure fundamental legal rights for nonhuman animals. Since our founding in 1995, our groundbreaking work has challenged an archaic, unjust legal status quo that views and treats all nonhuman animals as legal “things” with no rights. As with human rights, nonhuman animal rights are based on fundamental values and principles of justice such as liberty, autonomy, equality, and fairness.
Your support helps us bring these principles to life for nonhuman animals—in courtrooms, in public discourse, and in the broader fight for change.
We know that considering when and how to give is a personal decision, and we’re committed to making the process as clear, secure, and simple as possible.

After you’ve completed your donation, you’ll see options to write a personalized e-message and send an e-card letting the donation honoree know a gift has been made on their behalf. We carefully test all our forms, but sometimes there are glitches for users in certain circumstances. If you’re experiencing an issue, the easiest and quickest way around it is often to use a different device or browser. You can also try clearing your cookies and reloading the page. If you continue to experience issues, email donations@nonhumanrights.org (with a screenshot of the issue if possible) and we’ll provide any guidance we can on resolving the issue and/or provide information on other ways to give.
To ensure the highest level of security for your personal and financial information, we’re unable to accept donations by phone at this time. This policy follows industry best practices and helps us maintain the most secure giving environment possible.Â
When donating online, donors have the option to cover processing fees that are charged to us in order to accept your donation. This is the default option, but you don’t have to pay this fee to make a donation. To opt out of covering these fees, uncheck the “cover transaction costs” box in the “choose a payment method” step of your donation. If you were charged a processing fee in error and would like to request a refund, please contact us at donations@nonhumanrights.org for assistance. You can also avoid processing fees by making a donation by mail via check.Â
When you donate online, our donation form offers you the option to make a one-time gift or a monthly donation. On the first box of our donation page (“Secure donation”), you are asked to select “Give Once” or “Monthly” according to your preference. If you select “Give Once,” in the second box of our donation page, you’ll be asked to confirm again that you’d like to make a one-time gift. Sometimes, individuals miss this step and accidentally set up a monthly donation. To confirm you’d like to donate only once, please make sure you click on the text at the bottom that says “No, keep my one-time gift.”Â
If you signed up for a monthly donation by mistake, you can cancel it by logging in to our secure donor portal here using the email address associated with your online gift. Please note that any gifts made before November of 2024 may not appear in our new portal (Fundraise Up) but can be found in our previous donor portal here (EveryAction/Bonterra). If you need help, please contact donations@nonhumanrights.org, and we’ll be happy to assist you.Â
